Perceptions de la pratique des essais cliniques sur le VIH/sida par les médecins prescripteurs des antirétroviraux agréés de Kinshasa (RD Congo)

Abstract

The purpose of this study, conducted between November 2005 and January 2006 among prescribers of antiretroviral drugs, was to identify their perceptions on the contextual issues related to the practice of the clinical trials on HIV/AIDS in Kinshasa. To perform the identification of these issues, a questionnaire was developed and finalized following the exploratory phase of our investigation to assess the views of the physicians on the national AIDS control program (PNLS) of Congo, which play the leading role in the context of their professional practice. Of 50 prescribers solicited to participate in our survey, 35 have returned the questionnaire, 10 were not available at the time of the survey and 5 have not returned the questionnaire to the address and within such period as we had indicated. The results reflect the need to strengthen the capacity-building of local actors. One of the objectives covered by the local conduct of clinical trials is the transfer of knowledge; it is necessary, in the light of the results, to say the educational role of the local Ethics Committee. This should allow the challenge of contextualization and reduce the tensions that could compromise the efficient conduct of clinical trials.
