Midwifery Education Institutions in Italy Creation and Validation of Clinical Preceptors’ Assessment Tool: Students’ and Expert Midwives’ Views

Background: The aim of the study is to create and validate a midwifery preceptor’s evaluation form to be used by midwifery students. The International Confederation of Midwives recommends that clinical placements need to be supervised by a preceptor in order to be efficient for students who, in this way, gain competence and proper practice within the midwifery practical area. Methods: This is an observational multi-center transversal study and leads to the validation of an evaluation questionnaire. Methodically, the following steps were followed: literature review, focus group with midwifery students, meeting between expert midwives, creation of the preceptor’s assessment form, filling in of the forms by midwifery students and expert midwives, and validation of the form. The study was carried out in eight Italian universities and included eighty-eight midwifery students and eight midwives. Results and Conclusion: A midwifery preceptor’s assessment questionnaire was created made up of four attribute areas which, as a total, included 33 items. Cronbach’s alpha score was calculated after examining the forms filled in by students and expert midwives. An alpha score of 0.97–0.85 was obtained. The result was Pearson Correlation Coefficient r = 0.78.

The preceptorenewly graduated nurse (NGN) relationship is integral to the successful experience of clinical teaching and learning and new nurses' transition. However, interpersonal conflicts between them are common. Little is known whether their anger contributes to their level of job satisfaction and burnout. This study aimed to examine the effects of each nurse's anger on job satisfaction and burnout in preceptoreNGN dyads. Methods: A cross-sectional, correlational survey design was used. This study involved 121 preceptor enewly graduate nurse dyads in two hospitals in South Korea. Nurses completed a questionnaire about demographics, the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory-Korean version, a job satisfaction measure, and the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory. This study adopted the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model to handle dyadic data. Results: Preceptor nurses reported higher frequencies of feeling anger than did new nurses and appear to have higher levels of trait anger, anger-out, and burnout. Both the preceptors' and NGNs' trait anger was positively associated with preceptors' burnout. Suppressing anger was closely related to the nurses' own job satisfaction and burnout. Preceptors with a higher level of anger-control had higher job satisfaction, and NGNs with a higher level of anger-control had less burnout. Conclusion: The results indicate that preceptors and new nurses appear to experience significant anger, which is closely associated with their job satisfaction and burnout during their preceptorship. Anger management training programs geared toward educating both preceptors and new nurses about appropriate anger expression in the workplace should be developed to retain valuable nurses.

A B S T R A KDalam dekade terakhir berbagai kajian dilakukan untuk menemukan metode pembelajaran terbaik antara preceptor dan mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran klinik. Hal ini bermakna bahwa metode pembelajaran yang tepat dapat meningkatkan pencapaian kompetensi mahasiswa dan akan berpengaruh terhadap tingkat kepuasan mahasiswa. Salah satu metode pembelajaran klinik yang sering diterapkan dalam pembelajaran klinik adalah metode Preceptorship, namun belum diketahui bagaimana kepuasaan mahasiswa terhdap metode tersebut. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui tingkat kepuasaan mahasiswa DIII Keperawatan dalam pembelajaran klinik. Desain penelitian adalah deskriptif kuantitatif. Instrumen menggunakan kuesioner yang disusun berdasarkan teori Service Quality (ServQual). Jumlah sampel adalah 93 mahasiswa, dengan teknik Purposive random sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukan tingkat kepuasan mahasiswa adalah 49 responden (52,7%) puas dan 44 responden (47,3%) menyatakan tidak puas. Pada dimensi tangible 54,8% menyatakan puas, dimensi reliability 62,4% menyatakan puas, dimensi responsiveness 66,7% menyatakan puas, dimensi assurance 74,2% puas, dan dimensi emphaty 80,6% menyatakan puas. Kepuasan mahasiswa behubungan dengan sikap, kesungguhan mereka saat menjalankan profesi mereka. Di harapkan pihak institusi pendidikan dan rumah sakit dapat mengembangkan berbagai metode pembelajaran yang lebih memperhatikan berbagai dimensi dalam kepuasaan pembelajaran klinik.Kata Kunci : pendidikan klinik, pr eseptor ship, mahasiswa keper awatan
