Technique MDSome 15,000 "Judkins procedures" following a pleasant and informative visit with Dr. Melvin Judkins in his Portland laboratory in 1968, his technique remains our first choice at Saint Thomas. In this issue of the journal, Drs. Vijay and Schoonmaker describe an enviable experience with their percutaneous single catheter approach and Dr. Sheldon comments on the brachial cutdown approach pioneered by Sones. Using the Judkins approach, a "routine" diagnostic left heart catheterization with pressure measurements, left ventriculography and multiple selective left and right coronary injections usually takes 15 minutes or less total operative time and three minutes or less total x-ray time in our laboratory.
