Percutaneous Closure in Transfemoral Aortic Valve Implantation: A Single-Centre Experience

Abstract: PCD failure was related to a small CFA diameter and to a severely calcified CFA. Failure could largely be managed with minimally invasive techniques such as covered stents or fascia suturing.

“…Several previous reports revealed the feasibility of percutaneous femoral artery closure devices for the management of large‐caliber sheaths during TF‐TAVI . The success rates of femoral artery hemostasis using double Perclose ProGlide devices in the literature range from 80.5% to 93.9% . In the present study, we observed success rates of 94.9% and 91.7% in the single and double ProGlide groups, respectively, which are comparable or superior to the rates per these previous reports.…”

“…The ProGlide system is relatively simple and has a low profile compared with the Prostar XL; thus effective hemostasis by ProGlide might be also achieved in our study cohort. Although the double ProGlide preclose technique has been widely adopted for the purpose of femoral artery closure , this study also revealed the potential benefit of a single ProGlide as being equal to that of the double ProGlide method. The single ProGlide procedure is as safe as the double procedure, may be less invasive, and also has the advantages of a shorter procedure time and halved cost of the closure device.…”

“…The echo‐guided technique described here satisfied the requirements and was useful even with the Prostar XL, but this point should be assessed in other cohort studies. The single and double ProGlide techniques have been used during TF‐TAVI but the superiority remains controversial . In a recent study, the single ProGlide technique achieved similar results to those of the double ProGlide technique even with the use of a large‐calibre sheath .…”
