Perfluoropolyether polymers by UV curing: design, synthesis and characterization

Abstract: Perfluoropolyether (PFPE) structures can be functionalized with acrylic groups using appropriate hydrogenated acrylic monomers: the macromers obtained are highly reactive under UV irradiation, and fluorinated polymers can be obtained. In the first part of this work is described the synthesis of new PFPE (meth)acrylic oligomers by extending OH-terminated fluorinated chains with urethane groups and reactive acrylic functions. The photopolymerization reaction of each product is then reported followed by the chara… Show more

“…The procedure for the synthesis of the PFPEXs is reported in detail elsewhere . The preparation of both PFPEXs employed the PFPE diol Fluorolink ® D10H (FLK D10H) from Solvay Solexis (MW = 1500, EW = 810, polydispersity = 1.4, OH functionality = 1.85).…”

“…Formulations containing fluoro monomers, fluorinated oligomers or copolymers have attracted great attention. They have low friction coefficient, water and oil repellency, low water absorption, heat resistance, weather resistance, corrosion resistance, transparency, light sensitivity, and low dielectric constant properties . There are many publications on preparation and properties of fluoride containing polymers discussing the plasma treatment, grafting reaction, self‐assemble technique, living polymerization, solution polymerization, photopolymerization, and sol–gel technique .…”

“…They have a linear perfluorinated structure and are synthesized by the photooxidation of tetrafluoroethylene . Thanks to their telechelic structure, Fomblin Z PFPEs and other functional derivatives are used as reactive intermediates in the synthesis of a large range of polymers such as fluorinated polyurethanes, epoxy or polyester resins, photocured, “clicked”, or self‐healable networks, PLA‐PFPE‐PLA triblock copolymers, and electrolytes for lithium batteries …”
