Performance Analyses and Improvements for the IEEE 802.15.4 CSMA/CA Scheme with Heterogeneous Buffered Conditions

Abstract: Studies of the IEEE 802.15.4 Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) scheme have been received considerable attention recently, with most of these studies focusing on homogeneous or saturated traffic. Two novel transmission schemes—OSTS/BSTS (One Service a Time Scheme/Bulk Service a Time Scheme)—are proposed in this paper to improve the behaviors of time-critical buffered networks with heterogeneous unsaturated traffic. First, we propose a model which contains two modified semi-Markov … Show more

“…However, the scheme adapts a variation in CW size, which would have a direct impact on the energy consumption of the node. Zhu et al 21 analyzed the performance of the IEEE 802.15.4 CSMA‐CA mechanism for heterogeneous networks. In addition, they have proposed two novel schemes such as one service time scheme and bulk service time scheme.…”

“…For a complete analytical formulation of PHY layer FER, the readers are referred to one of our earlier publication [11]. The other parameter, P col , is the MAC collision probability, already presented in (18). The total frame error probability, P e = 1 − P suc , is thus,…”

“…For the simulation, we used the OMNET++ simulator [ 30 ] to evaluate the performance of NEAPT in both stationary and dynamic scenarios. According to the authors of [ 6 , 7 , 8 ], we made the simulation with a setup, as listed in Table 2 . In all the experiments, we assumed that all sensor nodes were operating on top of the 2.4 GHz Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) radio band, with a maximum bit rate of 250 Kbps.…”
