Performance Analysis and Quality Evaluation of Wheat Storage in Horizontal Silo Bags

Abstract: Wheat still suffers from the problem of traditional storage methods, limited storage capacity, and a high percentage of losses in terms of quantity and quality. Hermetic silo bags are economical and alternative technique to the traditional storage methods. Ten horizontal plastic silos with the capacity of 200 tons/silo were tested and evaluated for eight months of wheat storage. The evaluations included grain bulk temperature, CO2 concentration, fungal and microbial count, insect count, grain moisture content,… Show more

“…Mold prevalence (cfu/g of grains) was determined according to the method outlined in [34] and [35]. Before being digested for 2 min, 25 g of representative samples were soaked for 30 min in 250 ml of sterile peptone (0.1% in water).…”

“…Traditional structure used to store grains in Konkan are Kananj, mudi,Kangee, etc. However, insects can still be able to enter these structures, as well as the growth of fungus and rodents and is not safe for fumigation because of gas lickage [8]. Moisture content is one of the major constraints in storage structures that results in the growth of molds that destroys the stored grains in the structures.…”
