Performance Analysis of a Self Excited Induction Generator with Digitally Controlled Electronic Load Controller for Micro Hydel Power Generation

Abstract: This paper presents the analysis of dynamic and steady state performance of a Self Excited Induction Generator (SEIG) with digitally controlled Electronic Load Controller (ELC) feeding single phase loads. The excitation capacitors, electronic load controller,1-phase load in conjunction with the dq model of the 3-phase induction machine taking into account the saturation effect are used to predict the dynamic behavior of the SEIG. The digital control is realized by means of PIC18F252 microcontroller which provi… Show more

“…S. S Murthy et.al [29] proposed a digitally controlled ELC for accessing the complete performance of the IAG under transient and steady state condition. The compete modelling of the generating system is accomplished by combining the d-q model of SEIG (considering saturation effect), ac excitation capacitor model, 1-phase load model, electronic load controller (ELC) model.…”

“…Most of the loads fed by the renewable energy sources such as Pico or Micro power systems are single-phase loads (Murthy et al, 2008). However single-phase induction motor can be operated as self-excited induction generator (SEIG), which is only limited to relatively small power output.…”

“…The induction generator can operate in the self-excitation power generation mode when an appropriate capacitor bank is connected in parallel with its stator terminal ports. The operation of isolated induction generator with PWM converter excitation has been the subject of some papers [1,[5][6][7][8][9][10][11].…”
