Performance Analysis of FSK-PPM Technique in Visible-Light Communication Systems

Abstract: This paper presents a combination of the FSK (frequency shift keying) and the PPM (pulse position modulation) techniques for visible-light communication systems. We propose novel modulator architecture, which is referred as combined FSK-PPM (CFPPM), to observe the average power requirement of FSK technique. The proposed combined scheme is compared with the traditional FSK method in terms of average transmission power and BER (bit error rate) performance. The average transmission power of FSK modulation techniq… Show more

“…There has been prior work on a combined FSK and PPM modulation, but primarily for applications outside the wideband regime. In optical communications, low-dimensional FSK and PPM modulations were used to reduce the required SNR compared to other modulations for similar bit error rates (BER) [17] and to reduce the power penalties for a given BER [18]. A FSK and PPM modulation was used in low energy critical infrastructure monitoring networks in order to reduce the power requirement compared to an FSK modulation for equivalent BERs [19].…”

“…authors have focused on the hybrid and heterogeneous mobile networks to assure the demands of users and service providers (12)(13)(14)(15)(16)(17). In addition to providing high data rate, energy-efficient schemes have been attracted the very attention from researchers (18)(19). Specifically, IoT (Internet of Things) technology which is one of the backbones of industrial systems has been recently combined to VLC systems to provide energy efficiency [19].…”
