PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to develop a model for sustainable manufacturing by adopting a combined approach using AHP, fuzzy TOPSIS and fuzzy EDAS methods. The proposed model aims to identify and prioritize the sustainable factors and technical requirements that help in improving the sustainability of manufacturing processes.Design/methodology/approachThe proposed approach integrates both AHP, Fuzzy EDAS and Fuzzy TOPSIS. AHP method is used to generate the weights of the sustainable factors. Fuzzy EDAS and Fuzzy TOPSIS are applied to rank and determine the application priority of a set of improvement approaches. The ranks carried out from each MCDM approach is assessed by computing the spearman's correlation coefficient.FindingsThe results reveal the proposed model is efficient in sustainable factors and the technical requirements prioritizing. In addition, the results carried out from this study indicate the high efficiency of AHP, Fuzzy EDAS and Fuzzy TOPSIS in decision making. Besides, the results indicate that the model provides a useable methodology for managers' staff to select the desirable sustainable factors and technical requirements for sustainable manufacturing.Research limitations/implicationsThe main limitation of this paper is that the proposed approach investigates an average number of factors and technical requirements.Originality/valueThis paper investigates an integrated MCDM approach for sustainable factors and technical requirements prioritization. In addition, the presented work pointed out that AHP, Fuzzy EDAS and Fuzzy TOPSIS approach can manipulate several conflict attributes in a sustainable manufacturing context.

This paper targets two improvement aspects of the electrical discharge machining (EDM) process. First, it formulates the EDM problem as an economic issue incorporating the present worth analysis into the factor-level framework and solves it with the performance analysis flow diagram. Second, it conceptualizes the EDM process as imprecision and uncertainty and solves it with the fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (FAHP) approach. At present, these methods are not accessible to the EDM process engineer to machine the work material, AA6061/10%Al2O3AMMCs. In this study, the EDM process application using these methods on AA6061/10%Al2O3AMMCs is considered. This paper investigates the use of fuzzy AHP multi-criteria and the present worth method to produce a structured approach to model multi-response problem of EDM process parametric optimization concerning composite named AA6061/10%Al2O3AMMCs to obtain a robust design and the best parametric selection. The selected performance measures for the inputs to attain the performance flow analysis using the present worth method are MRR = 17.932 to 31.753 mg/min, TWR = 0.171 to 0.289 mg/min, SR = 8.228 to 12.680 mm and OV = 0.292 to 0.406 mm. The performance flow analysis reveals a present with a value of 1.604 based on the equivalence analysis of the flow diagram's positive and negative sides. The FAHP results showed the enhanced values of 0.1051, 0.2290, and 0.6658 for peak current, pulse on time, and duty factor, respectively. The approach is novel and has not been implemented elsewhere to solve the problem for the combination of materials studied.

Flooding is one of the most destructive natural catastrophes that can strike anywhere in the world. With the recent, but frequent catastrophic flood events that occurred in the narrow stretch of land in southern India, sandwiched between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea, this study was initiated. The goal of this research is to identify flood-vulnerable zones in this area by making the local self governing bodies as the mapping unit. This study also assessed the predictive accuracy of analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and fuzzy-analytical hierarchy process (F-AHP) models. A total of 20 indicators (nine physical-environmental variables and 11 socio-economic variables) have been considered for the vulnerability modelling. Flood-vulnerability maps, created using remotely sensed satellite data and geographic information systems, was divided into five zones. AHP and F-AHP flood vulnerability models identified 12.29% and 11.81% of the area as very highvulnerable zones, respectively. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve is used to validate these flood vulnerability maps. The flood vulnerable maps, created using the AHP and F-AHP methods, were found to be outstanding based on the area under the ROC curve (AUC) values. This demonstrates the effectiveness of these two models. The results of AUC for the AHP and F-AHP models were 0.946 and 0.943, respectively, articulating that the AHP model is more efficient than its chosen counterpart in demarcating the flood vulnerable zones. Decision-makers and land-use planners will find the generated vulnerable zone maps useful, particularly in implementing flood mitigation plans.
