Today, web services rapidly increased and are accessed by many users, leading to massive traffic on the Internet. Hence, the web server suffers from this problem, and it becomes challenging to manage the total traffic with growing users. It will be overloaded and show response time and bottleneck, so this massive traffic must be shared among several servers. Therefore, the load balancing technologies and server clusters are potent methods for dealing with server bottlenecks. Load balancing techniques distribute the load among servers in the cluster so that it balances all web servers. The motivation of this paper is to give an overview of the several load balancing techniques used to enhance the efficiency of web servers in terms of response time, throughput, and resource utilization. Different algorithms are addressed by researchers and get good results like the pending job, and IP hash algorithms achieve better performance.

Perkembangan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi (TIK) sangat pesat. Saat ini hampir semua organisasi menggunakan sistem informasi berbasis website untuk mempermudah pekerjaannya. Perkembangan TIK tersebut juga didukung dengan perkembangan perangkat keras dan perangkat lunak. Salah satu isu utama dalam sistem berbasis website adalah kualitas layanan (performa). Faktor yang dapat mempengaruhi performa adalah aspek perangkat lunak dan perangkat keras. Salah satu perangkat keras yang berkembang adalah CPU dengan teknologi multicore. Teknologi multicore, mampu menjalankan proses secara paralel. Sehingga diharapkan dengan teknologi multicore, performa layanan menjadi lebih cepat. Selain dari aspek perangkat keras, performa layanan juga dipengaruhi aspek perangkat lunak yang berjalan dibawahnya, salah satunya adalah web server. Saat ini berkembang banyak web server. Kualitas berbagai web server perlu menjadi perhatian, agar layanan tetap baik. Uji coba terhadap teknologi multicore dan berbagai jenis web server perlu dilakukan untuk mengetahui efek terhadap kualitas layanan. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui kualitas layanan berbagai macam web server dalam lingkungan multicore. Pengujian dilakukan dengan simulasi permintaan dengan variasi jumlah core dan konkurensi. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan core mempengaruhi jumlah permintaan yang dapat dilayani tiap detik, waktu respons server lebih cepat dan mengurangi beban masing-masing core. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata peningkatan jumlah permintaan yang dapat dilayani sekitar 4000 hingga 5000.

The swift emergence of smart technologies, notably the Internet of Things (IoT), has revolutionized numerous industry sectors. However, outdated IoT architectures constrain innovation in smart cities due to scalability issues, compromised resilience, and security vulnerabilities. This thesis scrutinizes these challenges, advocating a contemporary approach to IoT system design. Prioritizing performance, scalability, security, and resilience, the research delves into the applicability of Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) methodologies, endorsing containerization and cloud-centric patterns for smart city IoT. The introduced model is contrasted with prevailing architectures, highlighting a trajectory for IoT progression. Merging empirical and theoretical insights, this study furnishes guidelines for the future of IoT in smart industries, underscoring the benefits of service-based architectures for efficiency, resilience, and security. iii This MASc thesis owes its existence to the guidance and encouragement of many. My appreciation goes to Dr. Chung-Horng Lung, whose keen insights sparked my interest in cloud technologies, one of the most fascinating focus areas of this research. I am also indebted to Mohammed Ismail, a long-time friend and academic cohort. His eagerness to explore the complexities of containerization technologies along with me, combined with his invaluable advice during the implementation and testing phases of my experiments, contributed significantly to the success of this work. My family, a constant source of strength, and my patient fiancé, who has endured my long working hours and has always stood by me, deserve heartfelt recognition.
