Performance analysis of Weibull methods for estimation of wind speed distributions in the adamaoua region of Cameroon

Abstract: This paper explores the performance analysis of five Weibull distribution methods to select the more accurate estimation for the Weibull parameters using time-series of measured daily wind speed data collected in three localities in the Adamaoua region of Cameroon. The Weibull distribution with two parameters, the shape k, and the scale C, was specifically considered to be a good quality probabilistic model for wind speed distributions. The five Weibull distribution methods proved to be effective in evaluating… Show more

“…The comparison made in Table 1 is ranked according to the following criteria; i) WEE value should be closer to zero, ii) RMSE value should also be close to zero (Kidmo Kaoga et al, 2014) , iii) R 2 value should be closer to one (Akyuz and Gamgam, 2017). Table 2 presents the mean values which were calculated by using the data of Table 1.…”

“…For WEE, it is desired to have a number that is the closest to zero. For RMSE, results close to zero mean more accuracy [24]. For the Coefficient of Determination method, it is considered that the higher the value of (R 2 ), the more accurate the result is [25].…”

“…r gives some information about the goodness of fit of the chosen model. A higher r represents a better fit using the theoretical or empirical function, and the highest value is 1 [33]. The equation of r is presented as the following:…”
