Our cities gain from recreational parks' fundamental environmental, aesthetic, and recreational benefits. They also bring great economic benefits to any country. The purpose of this research is to assess Citizens' views on the state of three recreational parks and landscaping in Akure, Ondo State. The study aims to evaluate three recreational parks and landscaping in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria, their properties, their impact on users, and the contribution of recreational landscapes to societal development and revenue generation. This paper also suggests better ways to maintain these recreational parks. Gardens with a broad assortment of trees and other plants are a significant recreational feature in developing countries like Nigeria. Urban and recreational facilities have been seen as a tool to improve living conditions in Ondo State. One of the most difficult aspects of maintaining recreational parks is balancing the needs of different user groups, such as those seeking solitude and those seeking raucous play and picnicking. Parks and recreation are typically the "engine" of local tourism. In a simplified tourism model, people leave their homes and travel to attractions supported by services such as hotels/motels, restaurants, and commerce.

Sustainable tourism is contributing to environmental conservation and socio-economic well-being of local communities; however, there is a paucity of knowledge on the sustainability of Idanre Hills despite its huge ecotourism potentials. A mixed-methodological approach was employed in analysing surveyed data on tourist influx and household's responses from neighbouring communities at the study site and the management staff of the Idanre Hills. Physical field observations were also conducted to assess tourist attractions and their location coordinates. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for the empirical analysis. Findings revealed a significant negative correlation between local entrepreneurial investments and economic gains in the host communities. Private investors have not benefited significantly from the economic payback of Idanre Hills as a major ecotourism site. Internally generated revenue to the state government in tourism mainly comes from toll fees and rents charged on local restaurants and bars which signify infinitesimal contribution to overall State's finance. Local visitors were found to have outrun foreign visitors even when total influx rose by 70.8% between 2005 and 2016. There are also positive cultural and environmental impacts of ecotourism practise; therefore, social amenities and infrastructural facilities are necessary to boost the local economy and encourage private entrepreneurial investments in the ecotourism industry. These policy insights would serve as developmental pathways towards actualising the chore of enlisting Idanre Hills on UNESCO World Heritage List.

Recreational open space is the outdoor open-air space involving green,grey,water and air spaces which can be used for active and/or passive recreation such as park, garden, public golf course and general open spaces. Recreational open space has been seen to be inadequate to cater for the rising demand of public recreation due to the increase in the population of people in Akure city. Many researches carried out on recreation and open spaces in the study area have indicated that abandonment, misuse, conversion, mismanagement, dilapidation, encroachment to mention a few are reasons for the inadequacies of these recreational open spaces. Amidst these challenges and threats to recreational open spaces, the study was set to look at the possible indicators for these demands in relation to the issues facing recreational open spaces.Consequently,a mix method approach involving administration of 379 questionnaires through stratified random sampling technique and case study of recreational open spaces in the study area was adopted. Hence, the study examined the factors influencing users’ satisfaction and sustainability of recreational open spaces in Akure as its aim.The study revealed the relationship between the management condition,satisfaction and benefit of the provision of recreational open spaces as an insight to a healthy city and development.Findings revealed that greater number of the study population visit frequently the available recreational open spaces and would want the recreation facilities to be properly managed especially to meet their satisfaction.The paper further recommends that local and state governments should provide more recreational open spaces with the consideration of users’satisfaction for a healthy living.
