Performance assessment of steel structures with semi-rigid joints in seismic areas

Abstract: Purpose It is well known that the real behaviour of joints lies between the ideal pinned or rigid joint responses. Additionally the influence of this behaviour on the global structural response has been widely studied in the past centred on the plastic resistance or the critical load. On the other hand, there are relatively few studies focusing on the dynamical response of these structures. This paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach Two types of structures with rigid and semi-rigid … Show more

“…e modeling and simulation can provide a more detailed description of performance characteristics, including the component interactions and behavioral processes of complex systems [2][3][4]. Hence, the method based on these techniques can better satisfy the demands of modern systems and provide a more practical and intuitive result.…”

“…Asphalt pavement, as a common pavement form of high-grade highway, is usually composed of a bed course, subbase course, base course and asphalt concrete surface. Among them, the base assumed the role of drainage, pollution prevention and insulation, and it provided the bearing capacity of asphalt pavement together with the roadbed (Cui et al, 2018;Zhao et al, 2023;Moreno-Navarro et al, 2022;Dong et al, 2022;Zhang et al, 2022a;Said Hicham Boukhalkhal et al, 2019;Katkhuda et al, 2017). However, in the actual project, the base is generally loose granular type and the side of the road shoulder cannot directly discharge the roadbed due to slope rain erosion, resulting in the drainage function into water storage function.…”

“…The lateral components in a structure determine the ability of the structure to resist wind and earthquake loads (Hou et al, 2019). So far, reinforced concrete and steel structures are still the main earthquake-resistant structures in the world (Al-Kasasbeh and Allouzi, 2021;Boukhalkhal et al, 2020). However, timber structures are becoming popular as people's demands for living environment increase.…”
