Performance enhancement and signal integrity analysis of multiband MIMO antenna for handheld electronic devices

Abstract: In this study, a multiband 8‐element MIMO antenna operating at LTE 800/2300/2500 MHz, GSM 850/900/1900 MHz, UMTS, DCS, PCS, IMT, WLAN 2400 MHz, WiMAX 3500 MHz and Wi‐Fi 5800 MHz is proposed for handheld devices. The proposed antenna comprises of radiating elements and novel decoupling structure to reduce the mutual coupling. To obtain multiple resonances, F‐shaped monopole, C‐shaped strips, L and S‐shaped monopoles are integrated to form the complete radiator. The protruded ground plane with inverted π‐shaped … Show more

“…At the same time, with the miniaturization of the terminal device, the radiator is usually bent and folded to increase the antenna electrical length to make the antenna operate at lower frequencies [12]. e bending and folding method of the antenna radiator structure is used to increase the electrical length of the antenna to achieve miniaturization of the antenna [13][14][15].…”

“…Table 2 shows a comparison of this antenna with some other MIMO antenna works. Compared with [6][7][8][9]12], the proposed antenna occupies less space with good isolation, high efficiency, and low ECC. Moreover, the proposed antenna designed around the handset frame cannot be easily interfered by various bottom components and is applicable to the currently popular full-screen mobile terminal.…”

“…The vertical metal patch increases the isolation to −12.5 dB on the corner of the terminal and −10 dB on the edge. In [8], a four-band eight-element MIMO antenna is presented. Four monopole antennas of different shapes, F, C, L, and S, are used as the radiation surface of each antenna element.…”
