Performance evaluation of date-seed activated carbon as adsorbent in adsorption refrigeration system

Abstract: Vapour compression refrigeration systems are characterised by relative high energy requirement in addition to environmental pollution tendencies. Adsorption refrigeration system could be a better option in terms of huge energy savings and carbon emission reduction. This study is aimed at evaluating the performance and characteristics of date-seed activated carbon (DSAC) for use as adsorbent in adsorption refrigeration. Using isoster-based adsorbent/adsorbate equilibrium test rig, pressure, temperature and conc… Show more

“…Journal of Power and Energy Engineering The energy required by the adsorbent/adsorbate equilibrium test (adsorption cooling system) and the COP of the system were estimated as 1913.57 kJ/h and 0.39 respectively. This closely agreed with the results obtained by [1], the difference being due to the fact that the mass of the refrigerant slightly differs.…”

“…4 An adsorption refrigeration system is a thermally powered refrigerator using solid adsorbent beds to absorb and desorb a refrigerant to provide a cooling effect. 5 These solid adsorbent beds react to changes in the adsorbent's temperature by adsorbing and desorbing a refrigerant vapour. 6 The selection of an adsorbent-adsorbate combination is critical in determining the effectiveness of adsorption refrigeration, according to Omisanya.…”
