Performance of diode pumped Yb:Y2Ca3B4O12laser with V3+:YAG as saturable absorber for passively Q-switched mode-locking operation

Abstract: The diode-pumped passively Q-switched and Qswitching mode-locked Yb:Y2Ca3B4O12 lasers with V:YAG as saturable absorber are demonstrated in this paper. In the Qswitched regime, an average output power of 150 mW is obtained under the absorbed pump power of 6.6 W; the pulse width is 46 ns with the pulse repetition rate of 11 kHz, corresponding to the single pulse energy and peak power of 14 μJ and 296 W, respectively. For the Q-switched mode locking, the average output power of 223 mW is obtained with a repetitio… Show more

“…Figure 5(c) shows that the mode-locked pulses within the Q-switched pulse envelope were separated by about 2.8 ns, which was consistent with the cavity round-trip transmission time and corresponded to a repetition rate of ∼350 MHz. For the QML laser, the pulsewidth could not be easily measured by an autocorrelator, so we calculated the pulsewidth roughly using the formula [25] t mea ffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffiffi ffi t 2 real t 2 pho t 2 osc q ;…”

“…The slope efficiency of a-cut Yb:SYB crystal is larger than that of b-and c-cut, this agrees well with the theoretical calculation of the laser performance parameters of b min , I sat and I min . The maximum output power is 3.47 W for a-cut Yb:SYB crystal at the incident pump power of 14.3 W, with a slope efficiency of 29% and an optical conversion efficiency of 24%, both of them are higher than those of Yb 3+ :Ca 3 Y 2 (BO 3 ) 4 crystal (slope efficiency 22.1%, optical conversion efficiency 17.7%) [34] and Yb 3+ :Ca 3 Gd 2 (BO 3 ) 4 crystal (slope efficiency 23.7%, optical conversion efficiency 20.6%) [35]. The output laser emission spectra of a-, b-and c-cut Yb:SYB crystals with an output coupler transmission of 5% are shown in Fig.…”

“…Q-switching operation was also investigated with a Cr 4+ :YAG saturable absorber, with the pulse energy of 75 μJ and pulse width of 40 ns obtained [22]. In our precious work, we have achieved passively Q-switched mode locked Yb:CYB lasers by use of V 3+ :YAG saturable absorber and acousto-optic switch, respectively [23,24].…”
