) and best food conversion ratio (2.87±0.26) were obtained in fish fed 0.5 g 100 g −1 C. odorata leaf extract powder diet treatment. There were significant differences in fish carcass protein, lipid or ash content among the treatments (p<0.05). No differences occurred in white blood cells among the treatments (p>0.05) but there were greater improvement in the white blood cells of fish fed on dietary C. odorata leaf extract powder compared to the fish fed the control diet. The results suggest that dietary supplementation with C. odorata leaf extract powder improved growth rate, feed utilization, white blood cells and survival of C. gariepinus fingerlings.

Eighty 4-weeks old broiler chicks (Anak 2000 strain) were used in a 28 days feeding trial to determine the effects of replacement of soya bean meal (SBM) by bambara nut sievate (BNS) on the carcass and organ characteristics of fin- isher broiler chicks. BNS replaced soya bean meal by weight for weight at levels 0%, 5%, 10% and 15% for treatments 1,2, 3 and 4; respectively which were replicated four times in a completely randomized design. Feed and potable water were supplied ad libitum to the birds. Also, ap- propriate medication, sanitation and other stan- dard management practices were strictly adopt- ed. At the 28th day, one bird was randomly picked from each replicate, starved of food for 24 hours and then slaughtered and eviscerated for carcass and organ evaluation. Weights were measured with digital weighing scale. Results of analysis of variance of carcass parameters showed significant (P < 0.05) difference in the final live weight, carcass weight and dressed weight. Birds on 10% BNS and 5% BNS were not statistically different (P > 0.05) in the values above but only varied with birds on 10% and 15% BNS. Other carcass parameters were simi- lar (P > 0.05) in value between treatments. The liver, heart, gizzard and intestine significantly varied (P < 0.05) between their treatments. How- ever, kidney values did not differ significantly. From the results, it appeared that 5% BNS in- clusion is optimal for carcass and organ char- acteristics of finisher broilers

An experimental research was carried out to evaluate the effects of Moringa oleifera leaves and lysine on the growth performance of broiler chicks. A total of 60 three-week old broiler chicks were used in this study. The chicks were randomly assigned to four dietary treatments; T1 (control) having 0kg Moringa oleifera and 0kg lysine inclusion, T2 had 0.25 kg of lysine with no Moringa oleifera, T3 had 0.25kg of Moringa oleifera with no lysine and T4 had 0.5 kg of Moringa oleifera and no lysine respectively. Each treatment was replicated thrice in a completely randomized design. The experiment lasted for 10 weeks during which the parameters monitored included weight, organ weights and carcass characteristics. The data collected were subjected to analysis of variance and LSD at 5% significant level. The highest weight gain was recorded in the broiler chicks fed with diet T4 (2.04kg) followed by those fed with diet T2 (20.13kg) while the least was recorded in those fed with diet T1 (15.79kg). The analysis of variance result revealed that there was significant difference (p<0.05) between the weight gain of broiler chicks fed with the four dietary treatments for 10 weeks. The specific growth rate of broiler chicks fed with diet T4 had the highest specific growth rate (2.23) followed by those fed with diet T3 (2.20) while the lowest was diet T2 (1.96). But no significant difference existed between the specific growth rates of the birds fed the four diets. It was concluded that Moringa oleifera leaves can serve as a major component of poultry ingredients as it contains high protein content, cheap and readily available.
