Performance of Sweet Cherry Cultivars and Advanced Selections on Gisela 5 Rootstock in Young Orchards

Abstract: Six sweet cherry cultivars and two advanced selections of Gisela 5 rootstock were tested in 2015-2021 at the Institute of Horticulture, Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry. Fruit trees were planted at distances of 4.5 x 2.5 m and trained as spindles. Orchard floor management included frequently mown grass in alleyways with herbicide strips along tree rows. Cultivars ‘Mindaugė’ and ‘Irema BS’ were the most vigorous at the end of the seventh leaf. Their trunk diameter achieved 11.6 cm. The ‘M… Show more

“…Sweet cherry is mainly grown byamateur growers, and they are very rarely planted in commercial orchards (Lanauskas et al, 2023). This study aimed to investigate the changes in some metabolites and techniques needed to understand this mechanism better.Four-ve days after grafting, callus tissue is formed at the junction of the rootstock and scion to the graft, while the lack of callus tissue formation at the intersection leads to graft failure (Porika et al, 2016).…”

“…Plodovi tre{nje se prete`no konzumiraju u sve-`em stanju, te su atraktivnost i ukus ploda od velikog zna~aja (Lanauskas et al, 2023). U agroekolo{kim uslovima Srbije, sorta Summit ocenjena je veoma pozitivno u pogledu izgleda i ukusa ploda (Keserovi} et al, 2007).…”

“…The study of increasing the yield of sweet cherries by rootstock of weak and medium-sized trees was carried out by J. Lanauskas et al (2023). The design of plantations using this technology must meet certain standards: a straight trunk and a developed root system, the trunk and root must be healthy, the latter without significant distortions of the root collar, rootstocks must be of the same age and undamaged, with homogeneous species composition and quality.…”
