Performance Problems of Non-Toroidal Shaped Current Transformers

Abstract: Nowadays, non-toroidal shape primary pass-through current transformers are commonly used for large current machines with several cables per phase. As these transformers exhibit no radial symmetry, it is not clear if they can be tested using the indirect test described in the IEC 61869 standard. In order to answer this question, two non-toroidal shaped current transformers of different secondary winding designs have been tested and simulated. One transformer has a uniformly distributed secondary winding and the… Show more

“…As for 18 samples of data the error almost have the same error as 178 samples of data. The error may be cause by the current transformer characteristic that having a Class 5 accuracy's that is 5% reading error [14]. By measuring the current using the I RMS value, one can calculate the amount of electrical energy being used by a device or system over a given time period.…”

“…As for 18 samples of data the error is almost half the error of 4 samples of data. The error also may be cause by the current transformer characteristic that having a Class 5 accuracy's that is 5% reading error [14]. As the data taken for one cycle are increases, it also increases the accuracy of the reading.…”

“…It should be considered that one of the main sources of inaccuracies in magnetic measurement systems is magnetic core saturation [32]. To avoid this, simulations were made looking for maximum field currents that provoke rotor or stator core saturation.…”

“…Energies 2022, 15 To evaluate the inductive CTs' accuracy for the transformation of distorted current, differential measuring systems are used [10,11]. The measurements are performed in the rated ampere turns conditions as the equivalent method to reproduce the same operating conditions as for supplying the CT with the rated primary current [12][13][14]. The advantage of this solution is that the composite error is directly determined.…”
