“…Ethnotheatre and ethnodrama are defined by Saldaña and Mienczakowski and Moore as modes of dissemination of data gathered and analysed using traditional qualitative research tools such as action research, narrative, interviews, and field notes (Mienczakowski & Moore, 2008;Saldaña, 2008). “…We have chosen performed research as the umbrella term to encompass the nature of the performance-based research undertaken in this part of the project. Performed research (Ackroyd and O'Toole, 2010) has similarities to other terms and approaches such as performance/performed ethnography (Alexander et al 2005;Denzin 1997), a/r/tography (Irwin and de Cosson 2004) and ethnotheatre/ethnodrama (Mienczakowski and Moore 2008;Saldaña 2003). These respective approaches to arts-based research have individual nuances and intentions, yet they all share the potential to expand understandings, engage audiences and provoke new learning experiences through the performing of research.…”

“…The research design applied in this study was based on the RBT tradition (Beck et al, 2011;Mienczakowski, 1995Mienczakowski, , 1998Mienczakowski, , 2001Mienczakowski, , 2003Mienczakowski et al, 1996;Mienczakowski and Moore, 2008;Mienczakowski and Morgan, 2001;Saldaña, 2008;Wager et al, 2009), which implies the application of artful inquiry, scripting and performance in research (Finley, 2011;Saldaña, 2008Saldaña, , 2009. As a research method, RBT is an inquiry process in which various actors (in this case, the employees and managers of an organisation, the researchers and the artists) gain collective and personal knowledge by sharing experiences through linguistic and non-linguistic arts-based methods (Davies and Ellis, 2008;Finley, 2008;Leavy, 2009).…”

“…The research question systematically led us to adopt a specific artistic ADT-based approach to our action research orientation of RBT (Leavy, 2009;Mienczakowski, 1995Mienczakowski, , 2001Mienczakowski et al, 1996;Mienczakowski and Moore, 2008;Mienczakowski and Morgan, 2001;Saldaña, 2009). As a research strategy, RBT involves using theatre as a way of conducting and representing scholarly research.…”
