Perianal Dermatitis

Abstract: Contact allergy in patients with long-lasting perianal complaints is frequent. It is mandatory for these patients to be referred to a dermatologist for an adequate evaluation and patch testing. Methylchloroisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone seems as the most common allergen implicated in perianal contact dermatitis.

“…In a series of 124 Spanish patients with chronic perianal dermatitis (>4 weeks), systematic diagnostic work-up included patch testing. This most often revealed clinically relevant contact allergy to MCI/MI ( n = 17), neomycin sulfate ( n = 11), and caine mix (not specified; n = 6); the importance of testing own culprit products (in n = 20) was stressed [ 235 ].…”

“…36 Perianal psoriasis is common in genital areas, but involvement of anal canal is not yet observed. 37 Psoriasis patients have a higher risk of liver abnormalities than the general population, including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, drug-induced hepatitis, alcoholic hepatitis and neutrophilic cholangitis. 38 In a population-based cohort study, patients with more severe psoriasis, with or without psoriatic arthritis, were found to have an elevated risk for serious liver disease, including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and cirrhosis, especially those under systemic therapy.…”
