Abstract

Cystic disease of the liver caused by Echinococcus multilocularis remains a serious health concern in many countries. Curative treatment is often restricted to centers with facilities for liver surgery. However, surgical removal of cysts carries the risk of intraoperative or postoperative complications, including the probability of spreading contents, anaphylactic reaction, hemorrhage, infection, abscess formation, and biliary fistula. Pericyst radiofrequency ablation, without penetrating the exocyst, could turn out to be a safe and liver tissueYsparing treatment option. Furthermore, a hospital stay of 2 to 3 days means a reduction in overall costs for hospitalization and treatment.
