Periodontal Inflammatory Burden and Salivary Matrix Metalloproteinase‐8 Concentration Among Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease at the Predialysis Stage

Abstract: Elevated salivary MMP-8 associated significantly with more severe oral/periodontal inflammatory burden among patients with CKD at the predialysis stage. Thus, salivary MMP-8 analysis could give adjunctive information regarding oral health.

“…In the authors’ previous study, increased salivary MMP‐8 concentration was associated with poor oral health with emphasis on periodontitis at the predialysis stage of the same patient group as discussed here . Elevated salivary MMP‐8 concentrations were associated with at least two sites with ≥6 mm PD compared with zero to one sites with 6 mm or deeper pockets and with higher PIBI and higher TDI scores …”

“…MMP-8 was analyzed by time-resolved immunofluorometric assay (IFMA) [14,30,[31][32][33]. The monoclonal MMP-8-specific antibodies (8708 and 8706, Medix Biochemica, Espoo, Finland) were used as catching antibody and a tracer antibody.…”
