Perioperative B-type Natriuretic Peptide/N-terminal pro-B-type Natriuretic Peptide

Abstract: T HE heart is not only a pumping organ but also an endocrine organ. B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) is secreted primarily by cardiac ventricular myocytes in response to increased ventricular wall stress induced by volume expansion, pressure overload, or ischemia. 1 BNP protein formation begins with intracellular translation into a large preprohormone that is processed to pro-brain natriuretic peptide (proBNP) and then is cleaved and released into the circulation as active BNP and biologically inactive N-termi… Show more

“…Некоторые биомаркеры рутинно используются в кардиохирургии, в т.ч. в предоперационной оценке, например, тропонины и мозговые натрийуретические пептиды [5,6], в то время как другие все еще находятся в стадии исследования.…”

“…In the setting of volume expansion, pressure overload or ischemia, the resulting ventricular wall stress causes release of natriuretic peptides from the myocardium 27,110 . However, renal dysfunction, advanced age and female gender are associated with increased natriuretic peptide levels, regardless of left ventricular systolic function, whereas obesity has an inverse relationship with natriuretic peptide levels 30,47,48,111 .…”

“…Furthermore, the inflammatory state and general stress response during the perioperative period is of great interest, in particular oxidative stress due to major surgical trauma and cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) (Clermont et al 2002). Some biomarkers are used routinely in association with cardiac surgery, such as troponins and brain natriuretic peptides (BNP) (Lurati Buse et al 2014, Fox 2015, while others are still undergoing research.…”
