Perovskite Solar Cells with Enhanced Fill Factors Using Polymer-Capped Solvent Annealing

Abstract: Despite huge improvements in power conversion efficiencies of perovskite solar cells, the technology is still limited by fill factors at around 80%. Here, we report perovskite solar cells having exceptionally high fill factors of 85% and enhanced opencircuit voltage without sacrificing short-circuit current through a polymer-capped solventannealing process assisted by a hot air blower. During the solvent-annealing, the perovskite surface flattens and the perovskite grains agglomerate into micrometer-sized clus… Show more

“…[51] An ideality factor closer to unity, therefore, infers that the solar cells operate with less trap-assisted recombination. [52] In the PSCs with H-SnO 2 , we obtained η id of 1.29 that is lower than the value (η id ¼ 1.67) obtained from RT-SnO 2 -based PSCs. This supports the enhanced J SC and is evidence of improvements in V OC and FF as the traps can affect quasi-Fermi level splitting and charge extraction.…”

“…For example, the chemical reagents have been combined with traditional thermal treatments to improve the crystalline quality of the film by dissolving-recrystallizing the perovskite film, or reducing the evaporation of organic solvents [126,127]. On the other hand, researchers have used the principle of extracting polar solvents with organic reagents to achieve the supersaturated crystallization of perovskite, or have added ions into the precursor liquid to complete the coating and crystallization of the film at the same time [128,129].…”

“…The encapsulation layer annealing was performed by adding a layer on the surface of perovskite to form a sandwich structure with the upper and lower layers [129,169]. The existence of the encapsulated layer in the annealing process improved the film growth by retarding the evaporation of the solvent.…”

“…The highest FF values of regular perovskite solar cells and inverted perovskite solar cells are 85% [ 107 ] and 86% [ 108 ], respectively. The high FF values can be mainly explained as due to the existence of organic dipoles in the organometal trihalide perovskites, which has been demonstrated theoretically and experimentally [ 109 , 110 ].…”
