“…It is interesting to note that the loss of a parent contributed to PG above and beyond the contribution of the parent’s background variables and resources. This is consistent with the results of previous studies examining growth in the transition to parenthood in challenging circumstances (e.g., Chasson & Taubman – Ben-Ari, 2020; Porat-Zyman et al, 2017). Two explanations may be offered for this finding.…”

“…In recent years, a growing body of research has investigated PG in the context of normative life events that may be experienced as stressful, including the transition to parenthood (Taubman – Ben-Ari, 2012, 2019). Studies have found not only that new mothers may exhibit growth (Taubman – Ben-Ari et al, 2009) and that mothers report more growth than fathers (Spielman & Taubman – Ben-Ari, 2009), but also that parents of preterm infants display more growth than parents of full-terms (Porat-Zyman et al, 2017; Spielman & Taubman – Ben-Ari, 2009), and that single mothers by choice report more growth than mothers in a spousal relationship (Chasson & Taubman – Ben-Ari, 2020). These findings suggest a link between PG and more challenging circumstances.…”

“…A comparison of single heterosexual mothers, coupled heterosexual mothers, and coupled lesbian mothers with 4-8-yearolds found higher psychological distress and poorer social support in single mothers compared to both comparison groups and higher parenting stress in single mothers than heterosexual coupled mothers (Shechner et al 2010). However, a study of single mothers with toddlers found greater personal growth in single mothers than coupled mothers (Chasson & Taubman-Ben-Ari 2020).…”

“…La mujer suele ser afectada en su bienestar desde la etapa inicial de su decisión hasta la transición real a la maternidad; convertirse en madre es una transición de vida muy importante, que despierta sentimientos de satisfacción y recompensa junto con cargas físicas y mentales, que pueden inducir estrés en la transición a la maternidad e incluso cuando asumen el rol de madres como sustento de su familia (30) .…”
