Purpose Reporters are considered unique in terms of their information needs and seeking from other groups of masses. As they are running information business, the purpose of the study is to know about their skills of seeking, evaluating and engaging with information effectively and efficiently. Design/methodology/approach A cross-sectional survey was conducted with electronic media reporters from 20 news channels to assess their information literacy skills (IL) and personal information management practices (PIM). Findings The results indicated that the study’s participants considered themselves as information literate. They perceived themselves competent and confident in IL skills for the overall scale and on its all sub-dimensions as well. Interestingly, the study findings show that IL skills affect PIM practices positively. However, they were less competent in advanced searching techniques (i.e. use of Boolean logic, truncation etc.) and cloud-based storing tools and applications. Practical implications The study has inferences for information professionals, educators, media owners and other stakeholders. Policymakers in electronic media, particularly media libraries should offer training opportunities by organizing workshops, seminars etc. to enhance their advanced IL as well as PIM skills at workplace. Originality/value Very few studies investigated the IL phenomenon beyond its skills and assessment aspects. The present study uniquely identified impact of IL on PIM practices of working electronic media journalists.

Factors effecting re-find personal photographs are often difficult to define, given its inexpressible numbers. Literature review highlights the role of human behaviors in personal photographs lifecycle such as capturing, keeping, managing and re-finding personal photographs exaggeratedly without any progress to handle all factors and so forth. Moreover, personal photographs management systems are becoming widespread, which can help people to rapidly re-find their photographs that have been seen before. Yet some research gaps remain in these systems. This study aims to clarify most possible factors, which could influence re-finding personal photographs as with strengths and weaknesses points in existing photographs management systems. It also provides propose directions for future research in this domain. A review of existing studies highlights some gaps in the literature on the role of personal photographs lifecycle, which is followed by questions for future research. Given the richness of personal photographs re-finding domain, the authors believe that the proposed questions offer avenues for scholars to explore and develop greater understanding of the role of personal photographs lifecycle in difficulty of re-finding personal photographs. The authors acknowledge that there are certain limitations to this study, namely, focusing on the review of personal photographs and not on other forms of personal information. The review presents the role of personal photographs lifecycle and its use in the context of re-finding personal photographs. Finally, this study proposes only future research directions that are far from being exhaustive, rather than presenting experimental study results. Reviewing the current literature uncovers a number of gaps regarding the difficulty of re-finding personal photographs.

The growth of digital cameras has resulted in the creation of huge collections of personal photographs and video. Thus, in the last few years personal information management (PIM) has become an important topic in the information retrieval area, in which it is playing an interest role in managing and retrieving personal collections. Therefore, many previous studies have tried to visualize these collections in different ways. This paper aims to discuss the importance of visualization techniques that have been proposed in the PIM field in general, and it shows the main factors that have influence on visualizing an interactive PIM system interface for large collections of photographs and video in particular. The factors were identified through reviews of related work. The collated factors form a conceptual framework of interactive PIM system interfaces for photograph and video collections. The aim of the framework is to ensure full understanding about the personal information lifecycle and thus leads to the production of a PIM system that satisfies its intended users.
