Personalized Nutrition in the Management of Female Infertility: New Insights on Chronic Low-Grade Inflammation

Abstract: Increasing evidence on the significance of nutrition in reproduction is emerging from both animal and human studies, suggesting a mutual association between nutrition and female fertility. Different “fertile” dietary patterns have been studied; however, in humans, conflicting results or weak correlations are often reported, probably because of the individual variations in genome, proteome, metabolome, and microbiome and the extent of exposure to different environmental conditions. In this scenario, “precision … Show more

“…Chronic low-grade inflammation has been widely recognized as a pathogenesis factor in a wide array of highly detrimental pathophysiological conditions such as auto-immune, cancerous, cardiovascular, metabolic, musculoskeletal, neurodegenerative, psychosomatic, reproductive, dermatological, and other disorders [ 186 , 187 , 188 , 189 , 190 , 191 , 192 , 193 , 194 , 195 ]. BP encompasses marked inhibitory activities on inflammations including systemic and localized forms such as neuroinflammation and digestive wall inflammations [ 65 ].…”

“…Increasing evidence showed the important role of nutrition in reproduction, especially female fertility. 7 Selenium is an essential trace element for life and is an important dietary antioxidant. 8 Selenium was previously identified to affect the growth and proliferation of follicles through antioxidant effects.…”

“…There is mounting evidence that certain infertility-related illnesses are linked to longterm inflammatory illnesses. 4 The inflammatory response is simultaneously influenced by a number of reproductive events, including ovulation, menstrual production, placenta production and implantation, and pregnancy. [5][6][7][8] It is vital to investigate how the inflammatory response contributes to the etiology of infertility.…”
