Abstract:Compared to democracies, our understanding of policy attention in authoritarian governments remains limited. Using data from 612 Chinese municipal party secretaries’ official activities, we investigate the structural factors within the authoritarian bureaucratic system influencing new officials’ attention for economic issues.
