“…Existing literature on youth as community change researchers has emphasized the importance of socializing and fun into program activities (Nygreen et al, 2006) in order to build a network of support amongst one another. We have found relationship building to be critically important in our previous CBPR research teams (Vaughn et al, 2018), so we intentionally designed activities to build authentic relationships among youth within and between schools. We also created opportunities for youth to build relationships with academic leaders at the university with the long-term goal of making youth feel comfortable on campus and to develop a sense of belonging in high education settings.…”
