Perspectives of the smart Cu-Iodine coordination polymers: A portage to the world of new nanomaterials and composites

Abstract: This work is focused on the chemistry and physical properties of a particular family of coordination polymers (CPs) based on copper-iodine chains bearing functionalized pyridine, pyrimidine and pyrazine ligands. Although this family of compounds has been welldescribed, most of the studies have been focused on structural characterization and optical properties in bulk scale while works rationalizing their stimuli-responsive behavior and the role of these materials at the nanoscale are being reported very rencen… Show more

“…One category of SRPs is coordination polymer, namely metal-organic framework (MOF), that is formed by the linkage of metal entities and organic and inorganic ligands [10]. Different from conventional stimuli responsive polymers in which the repeating unit (monomer) is connected through a covalent bond, MOF-based SRPs are constructed via weak interactions, such as metal coordination, hydrophobic association, electrostatic interactions, van der Waals forces, etc.…”

“…They have been widely used in sensing applications due to their advanced optical properties, such as the intrinsic luminescent feature of sharp emission within a wide spectra range, long luminescence lifetime and large stokes shift [11][12][13]. In addition, the features of flexible organic bonds, variable coordination number/geometry and relatively weak metal-ligand interactions in MOFs make them great candidates for sensing as their structure (or conformation) can be dynamically tuned by target analytes [10].…”

“…External-stimuli responsive luminescence is the other fascinating property of many cuprous complexes. In this field, luminescence thermochromism (Hardt & Pierre, 1977;Sun et al, 2013;Zhuo et al, 2016), mechanochromism (Benito et al, 2014) or vapochromism (Cariati et al, 2000), as well as multistimuli-responsive luminescence, have been found and they are attracting considerable attention because of basic scientific interest and potential applications in sensors, displays and memory fields (Cariati et al, 2016;Conesa-Egea et al, 2019).…”
