Show more

“…Second, the HL children analysed in this study may, in fact, have more contact with the HL than the HL speakers analysed in other studies. EP is the third most spoken language in Switzerland, with a strong community and an extended network of HL classes in all cantons (Flores, Gonçalves, Rinke & Torregrossa, 2022; Gonçalves & Vinzentin, 2021 and references in Section 2.3). This indicates that Portuguese is continuously present in the children's lives in many contexts of socialization, complemented by frequent trips to Portugal, as often indicated in the parental questionnaires.…”

“…4 The resulting model was: m0 <-glmer (correct ∼ level_difficulty * (age + input2 + instruction + L2_AoO) + SES + (1|CH), family = "binomial", data = c_test_port). 5 The resulting model was: m0 <-glmer (correct ∼ language combination + (1|CH), family = "binomial", data = c_test_port) 6 The two models were: m1 <-glmer (correct ∼ language combination + level of difficulty + (1|CH), family = "binomial", data = c_test_port) m2 <-glmer (correct ∼ language combination * level of difficulty + (1|CH), family = "binomial", data = c_test_port) 7 In Flores et al (2022), we tested the same children considered in this study by using comparable cloze-tests in the SLs (French, German and Italian). We found that the mean accuracy values (as well as their standard deviations) did not differ between the two languages or were slightly dominant in the SL.…”
