Semah fish is a fish that has high economic value. The population of this fish has decreased drastically. Based on the studies that have been carried out, the problem of decreasing the population of Semah Fish raises management efforts that can ensure the sustainability of fish resources. The method used is direct observation in the field, fisherman's catch, and fish identification is carried out in molecular or DNA sequences. This review was conducted in 2022 on research that has been carried out in Sungai Manna, South Bengkulu Regency, and in Batang Tarusan, Pesisir Selatan Regency in 2012. The aim is to review and review the results of research that has been carried out related to the characteristics of fish management strategies and Semah Fish. . The results of the review on the study showed that the Semah Fish that lived in the Semangka River (Lampung Province), Manna River (Bengkulu Province), and Batang Tarusan River (West Sumatra Province) were identified as Tor tambroides species and constituted an integrated population or reproductive unit in this area. each of these rivers. In addition, it was found that several management efforts were carried out to maintain fish habitat, recommending that the Semah Fish conservation area in the Manna River can be determined, especially the Negara Kaya – Timun Island, the limitations of the size of fish that can be caught, which is more than 245 mm standard for the Manna River. , is greater than 206.6 mm for Batang Tarusan River, and regulates the fishing season in April and September.

Masheer (Tor douronensis) is one of the important commodities, has long been known as one of the fish with a high enough value, and is loved by many people in Jambi Province and several other provinces in Indonesia. However, the ecological information of this fish is not widely known. This study examines the characteristics of aquatic physical and chemical of the reserved and prohibited area for fish in Muara Bungo and Kerinci Regencies in Jambi Province. The study was carried out from December 2018 to October 2019 at four locations, i.e., Lubuk Alai, Senamat River, and Tarutung Village, and the river outside the protected area. Aquatic physical and chemical parameters data were collected in-situ and ex-situ. The Aquatic parameters observed were temperature 25.7-30.1oC, pH 6-7, DO 5.3-7.8, transparency 15-125 cm, depth 25-207 cm, turbidity 1.4-158.3 ppm, TSS 3.0-62.9 ppm, ammonia 0.08-0.76 ppm, nitrite 0.03-0.31 ppm, nitrate 0.00-0.68 ppm, and total phosphate 0.00-1.31 ppm, which were suitable for aquatic life. Based on habitat condition grouping, Lubuk Alai and Tarutung Village tend to have a higher similarity, which ammonia, transparency, depth, and total phosphate were the main components.

Mahseer fish Tor soro was classified as one of Indonesia's endemic species distributed in Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Java islands [1]. Currently, among the 18 assessed Mahseer fish species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), 50% are classified as threatened to critically endangered. However, the T. soro and T. douronensis species, originating from Indonesia are not included in the IUCN Red List [2]. The Mahseer fish population is declining primarily due to the ongoing dependence on wild captures to fulfill consumer demands. Moreover, anthropogenic activities on deforestation, land conversion, and pollution of river or lake can disrupt crucial habitat conditions and environmental quality for Mahseer fish [1].
