Pervaporation and Gas Separation Properties of High-Molecular Ladder-like Polyphenylsilsesquioxanes

Abstract: This paper presents the results of studies on the pervaporation properties (for benzene/hexane mixtures) and gas permeability (for He, H2, N2, O2, CO2, CH4, C2H6, and C4H10) of ladder-like polyphenylsesquioxanes (L-PPSQ) with improved physical and chemical properties. These polymers were obtained by condensation of cis-tetraphenylcyclotetrasiloxanetetraol in ammonia medium. The structure of L-PPSQ was fully confirmed by a combination of physicochemical analysis methods: 1H, 29Si NMR, IR spectroscopy, HPLC, pow… Show more

“…Muzafarov's group synthesized high molecular weight LPSQ ( M n = 238 100 g mol −1 , M w = 540 400 g mol −1 ) in an NH 3 medium to explore its gas transport and separation capabilities. 280 The LPSQ demonstrated high permeability for not only light gases and CO 2 but also benzene. Its high diffusion coefficients for small molecules such as He and H 2 (He: 2.2 × 10 −5 cm 2 s −1 , H 2 : 1.01 × 10 −5 cm 2 s −1 ) resulted in high permeability, with CO 2 (6.0 × 10 −7 cm 2 s −1 ) also exhibiting significant permeability despite a lower diffusion coefficient.…”
