Zircon U–Pb geochronology was carried out on plutonic rocks from Phnom Daek, Phnom Koy Rmeas, Svay Chras, Kon Mom, Koh Nheak, Andong Meas, Oyadav South, Svay Leu, and Phnom Soporkaley. The zircon U–Pb ages from the plutonic rocks determined in this study can be roughly divided into two groups. One is the Late Permian to Triassic ages of 278–202 Ma for the Phnom Daek, Phnom Koy Rmeas, Oyadav South, Svay Leu, and Phnom Soporkaley, and the other is the early Cretaceous ages of 118–98 Ma for the Svay Chras, Kon Mom, Koh Nheak, and Andong Meas samples. The plutonic rocks from Phnom Daek, Phnom Koy Rmeas, Svay Leu, Oyadav South, and Phnom Soporkaley were likely formed by magmatic activity in the Loei Fold Belt. These plutonic rocks were likely formed in an extensional setting and/or a region where the continental crust was thin. The plutonic rocks of Svay Chras, Kon Mom, Koh Nheak, and Andong Meas were likely formed by magmatic activity in the Dalat-Kratie Fold Belt, related to the NW-directed subduction of the Paleo-Pacific Ocean plate. These plutonic rocks are thought to correspond to the Dinhquan suite in southern Vietnam. The Kon Mom and Koh Nheak plutonic rocks fall within the alkaline series, which suggests that the magma genesis was deep and far from the western Paleo-Pacific Ocean plate. Magmatic activity in the Dalat-Kratie Fold Belt migrated oceanward as a whole during the Cretaceous.

The Ora batholith in south‐western Cambodia is situated in the western part of Indochina and east of the Inthanon–Bentong–Raub Palaeo‐Tethys suture and thus bears significant constraints for the equivocal crustal generation of the Palaeo‐Tethys orogenic belt in Mainland South‐east Asia. The Ora batholith consists of monzonitic granite (Group 1), alkali‐feldspar granite (Group 2), and biotite granite (Group 3), and they yield similar Early Jurassic ages of 186.0–199.7 Ma. Group 2 are high‐silica (SiO2 > 75 wt%) rocks with lower TiO2, Al2O3, FeOtot, MgO, CaO, P2O5, Eu, Ba, Sr, P, and Ti contents compared to those of the other two groups. Group 2 and 3 are classified as fractionated‐type granitoids, whereas Group 1 is unfractionated granite as the complementary residual of the fractionated rocks. All groups have positive εHf(t) values from +2.29 to +8.83, suggesting they were cogenetic and derived from partial melting of the lower crust with the addition of asthenospheric mantle material. Integrating with other granitoids in this region, we suggest the Ora granitoids belong to I‐type granitoids. Our petrogenetic and zircon U–Pb age data suggest the Ora granitoids were related to the Early Jurassic post‐collisional magmatism that resulted from crustal thickening and mantle lithospheric delamination due to a denser crustal root than the underlying mantle lithosphere after the Palaeo‐Tethys Ocean closure and collision between the Sibumasu and Indochina terranes. Then the following upwelling of the asthenospheric mantle not only heated and caused partial melting of the lower crust and mantle wedge, but also supplied asthenospheric material to generate the high‐εHf(t) magma.

Geochemical and zircon U-Pb geochronological constraints on late mesozoic Paleo-Pacific subduction-related volcanism in southern Vietnam

Late Mesozoic volcanic rocks comprising mainly basalt and basaltic-andesite to dacite occur in south-central Vietnam (Dalat zone) and to a lesser extent in southwestern Vietnam (Bay Nui area). Mineral and whole-rock chemistry indicate a calc-alkaline affinity for samples in the Dalat zone and a high-K calc-alkaline to shoshonitic affinity for rocks in the Bay Nui area. Mineral characteristics and variation diagrams of selected elements suggest that fractional crystallization dominated during magma differentiation. The Bay Nui volcanic rocks generally are more enriched in potassium and LILEs (large-ion lithophile elements) than volcanic rocks from the Dalat zone, which may indicate a more evolved nature or crustal assimilation. The similar chemical characteristics and eruption/emplacement age range of volcanic and plutonic rocks (ca. 90–110 Ma) of equal silica concentration indicate that the magma feeding the volcanic eruptions had the same source as that of the plutonic rocks. The observed mineral and whole-rock compositions with enrichment in LILEs, depletion in HFSEs (high field strength elements), and noticeably negative Nb, Ta, and Ti anomalies are characteristic for arc signatures. Zircon U-Pb geochronological data for the volcanic rocks indicate an age range of 95–105 Ma for the eruption. These geochemical and geochronological data link this Late Mesozoic volcanism with continental arc magmatism driven by the subduction of the Paleo-Pacific beneath eastern Indochina. Zircon xenocrysts with a likely magmatic origin cluster around 350 Ma and 250 Ma, indicating two earlier magmatic events most likely related to the subduction of the Paleo-Tethys beneath western Indochina and the subsequent Indosinian orogeny.
