“…As one of the three orogenic belts in the North China Craton (NCC) recognized in Zhao, Wilde, Cawood, & Lu, (1999), the Jiao‐Liao‐Ji Belt (JLJB) in Liaodong Peninsula comprises of voluminous Palaeoproterozoic meta‐sedimentary rocks and granites (Figure 1(a), (b)). Several studies have focused on the tectonic evolution of JLJB and suggested two different models, one being an arc–continent collision model (Bai, 1993; Faure, Lin, Monie, & Bruguier, 2004; Li, Chen, & Wei, 2017; Li, Chen, & Yan, 2018; Wang et al, 2015), and the other as an intra‐continental rift opening and closing model (Li et al, 2005, 2006; Li & Zhao, 2007; Wang, Peng, Wang, & Yang, 2016; Yang, Li, Yu, Gao, & Gao, 1988; Zhai & Santosh, 2013; Zhang & Yang, 1988). They are both popular but in contrast with each other (Zhao & Zhai, 2013).…”
