Petroleum Wastewater Treatment

Abstract: Petroleum hydrocarbons in refinery wastewater are considered the main cause of pollution. Wastewater from oil refineries contains large amounts of oil and fat in the form of suspended particles, light and heavy hydrocarbons, phenol, and other dissolved organic substances, which cause environmental pollution if they are discharged into the environment without treatment. Usually, conventional methods of treating petroleum wastes have a lot of costs; due to the existence of sufficient area for the construction of… Show more

“…Handling of petroleum wastewater can be done in various ways using advanced oxidation technology, chemical precipitation, wet oxidation, coagulation, flocculation, EC technology (Akkaya, 2022) and waste management can also be done using the solar evaporation method, membrane bioreactors using microorganisms, advanced oxidation, electrocoagulation, and membrane filtration (Beni et al, 2023). This research uses the adsorption method.…”

“…Hence, periodic monitoring and evaluation of the quality of the receiving environment for PRWW are required to protect living organisms from the toxicity of these pollutants. Hence, while there is a need for highly efficient and economically vibrant treatment technologies, PRWW effluents on the other hand are considered the main cause of environmental pollution (Beni, et al 2023).…”
