“…An abundance of inherited zircon in Late Cretaceous Idaho batholith rocks frustrated early attempts to determine crystallization ages. Across the region, the metamorphism in Laurentian rocks is commonly concluded to be a function of magmatic heating during emplacement of the Idaho batholith [ Hietanen , 1962; Lang and Rice , 1985; Barton et al , 1988; Criss and Fleck , 1990; Carey et al , 1992; Grover et al , 1992; House et al , 1997] although crosscutting relationships document postmetamorphic intrusion [ Reid , 1959; Lund , 2004].…”

“…Rhodes [1986] proposed that mylonitization occurred during a prograde increase in temperature and/or pressure. Carey et al [1992] interpreted nearly identical mineral assemblages with similar mineral textures from Boehls Butte, Idaho, as the result of selective replacement of kyanite by andalusite after the growth of fibrolite. We favor the interpretation that the fibrolite grew metastably along these high strain zones while in the andalusite stability field [e.g., Kerrick, 1990].…”

“…3a) record a polymetamorphic history with peak pressures of approximately 0.6 GPa (Lang & Rice 1985a, b). This assemblage is thrust southward over higher-grade rocks (Lewis 1995) that yield peak pressures in 0.8-1.0 GPa range Grover et al 1992;House et al 1997;Foster et al 2001). Available geochronological and thermochronological data from this portion of the Idaho batholith indicate that metamorphism of this higher-grade section together with the emplacement of deep-level plutons of the northern Idaho batholith occurred at mid-to lower crustal levels during Late Cretaceous time, at approximately 75 Ma (Toth & Stacey 1992).…”
