Abstract: Gas hydrates are naturally-occurring crystalline inclusion compounds. They comprise compressed molecules of gas (usually methane) that are ‘lodged’ within a solid lattice of water molecules. For this reason, the gas molecules are called ‘guests’ and the water molecules are called ‘hosts’.
