pH modeling for maximum dissolved organic matter removal by enhanced coagulation

Abstract: Correlations between raw water characteristics and pH after enhanced coagulation to maximize dissolved organic matter (DOM) removal using four typical coagulants (FeCl 3 , Al 2 (SO 4 ) 3 , polyaluminum chloride (PACl) and high performance polyaluminum chloride (HPAC)) without pH control were investigated. These correlations were analyzed on the basis of the raw water quality and the chemical and physical fractionations of DOM of thirteen Chinese source waters over three seasons. It was found that the final pH … Show more

“…Enhanced coagulation can be defined as methods that uses effective coagulant dosage to remove TOC or minimized DOC residual after coagulation in drinking water sources (Xie et al, 2012;Singer and Bilk, 2002;Volk et al, 2002). In the beginning of water treatment process, coagulation was employed with focus to reduce turbidity.…”

“…Hence different methods were proposed for removing or reducing NOM amount in drinking water sources. Besides NOM treatment, methods for DBPs removal from drinking water was also developed (Wang et al, 2013c;Duan et al, 2012;Xie et al, 2012;Comninellis et al, 2008;Cai et al, 2007).…”

“…The basic concept of the Australian approach was recently applied and developed further, based on data for 13 raw water types in China [28,29]. Besides describing pH changes for four coagulants in more detail, an attempt has also been made to characterize the NOM properties by physical and chemical fractionation techniques.…”
