Pharmacochemistry and integrated pharmacokinetics of six alkaloids after oral administration of Huang-Lian-Jie-Du-Tang decoction

Abstract: Pharmacochemistry and integrated pharmacokinetics of six alkaloids (groenlandicine, berberine, palmatine, epiberberine, jatrorrhizine, and columbamine) after oral administration of Huang-Lian-Jie-Du-Tang (HLJDT) decoction were investigated in this paper. The method of plasma pharmacochemistry was applied to predict the potential bioactive components in HLJDT decoction. Based on the accurate molecular weight, 10 components including 2 flavonoids (baicalin and wogonoside), 1 iridoid glycoside (geniposide), and 7… Show more

“…Drugs from natural products have distinct advantages, such as extensive resources, fewer advance effects, and definitive action in lowering lipids [19]. The extract of G. jasminoides Ellis fruits has been used over the years to treat metabolic symptoms [34]. Specifically, GNP was identified as an inhibitor of mitochondrial uncoupling protein 2 (UCP2) [29], a gene which is widely expressed in mammalian tissues and mediates energy dissipation.…”

“…It is composed of Coptis chinensis , Phellodendron chinense , Scutellaria baicalensis and Gardenia jasminoides in a proportion of 3:2:2:3. It was widely used in the past for purging heat by removing toxins [ 7 ] and now widely used for protecting neurons, treating arthritis, tumors, cardiovascular diseases and so on [ 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ]. HLJDT produces a large amount of precipitate during the process of decocting.…”

“…HLJDD is a traditional Chinese prescription with different types of PK interactions among its multi-components. In recent years, studies of the PK profiles and absorption of alkaloids, flavonoids and iridoid glycosides both in pure components and in HLJDD have been well conducted [38][39][40][41][161][162][163][164][165][166], especially of berberine, baicalin and geniposide. Berberine had better absorption within HLJDD than that of solo compound in an intestinal perfusion model of rat [167].…”
