Pharmacokinetics of Certoparin During In Vitro and In Vivo Dialysis

Abstract: The efficacy and safety of certoparin in the prophylaxis of clotting during hemodialysis have recently been proven. Different to other low-molecular weight heparins (LMWHs), certoparin does not accumulate in maintenance dialysis patients for unknown reasons. The purpose of the present study was to examine the impact of the dialysis procedure on the removal of certoparin. In a subgroup of the MEMBRANE study consisting of 12 patients, the pharmacokinetics of certoparin during hemodialysis was determined by means… Show more

“…Whereas UFH can accelerate both thrombin and factor Xa inhibition through AT, many of the LMWHs are too short to bridge thrombin to AT. Consequently, the ratio of anti-FXa/anti-FIIa activity is variable, ranging between 2 : 1 (tinzaparin) and 10 : 1 (bemiparin), dependent on the particular LMWH preparation (Table 1) [12][13][14][15][16][17][18]. LMWHs retain the factor Xa inhibition capacity of UFH, as this action is due to the pentasaccharide bonding.…”
