Pharmacological activities and pharmacokinetic study of hyperoside: A short review

Abstract: Hyperoside (quercetin-3-O-D-galactoside) is a flavonol glycoside which has been isolated from different plants. It has different pharmacological actions such as anti -inflammatory, anti-depressant, neuroprotective, cardio-protective, anti-diabetic, anti-cancer, anti-fungal, radio-protective, gastro-protective, and antioxidant activities. Studies on its pharmacokinetic (PK) properties revealed that it is a stable compound with no significant gender variation in its activities. Other significant details on it… Show more

“…The infusion of its aerial part is applied in the traditional medicine to treat chronic catarrhal affections, asthma, sore throats and cough ( Pieroni et al, 2004 ). Recent scientific evidences indicate that fungi of the phyla Basidiomycetes and Ascomycetes (e.g., Bjerkandera, Aspergillus, Candida , and Saccharomyces ) are causative agents of these pathologies ( Raza et al, 2017 ).…”

“…Concentrations of quercetin glycosides, hyperosi and rutin in the leaves of E. longistipitata are higher than those of respective aglycon These glycosides have strong pharmacological activities. For example, numerous in vi and in vivo studies on the biological activity of hyperoside have shown that it exerts an inflammatory, antithrombotic, antidiabetic, antiviral, antifungal, hepatoprotective, a antioxidant protective effects [33]. Rutin is recommended for the treatment of various d orders, especially vascular diseases such as varicose veins, internal bleeding, or hem rhoid.…”

“…Consequently, it has been shown that the presence of hyperoside in considerable quantity causes anti-oxidative and AChE inhibitory activities in the leaf sample of C.mongolica. Hyperoside widely occurs in the plant kingdom and it demonstrates definite free radical scavenging and oxidative stress protective activity, as well as antiinflammatory, anti-thrombotic, anti-diabetic, anti-viral, anti-fungal and hepatoprotective effects [36][37][38]. In a study by Zhao Y. et al, hyperoside exhibited DPPH scavenging and AChE inhibition activities by the IC 50 , 11.19 µM and 94.61 µM (or 0.0946 mM), respectively, which to a certain degree is comparable to our results.…”
