“…The progressive increase in post-exercise pulse rate during the 24 h between treatments with sustained release oxprenolol is in agreement with the observations on the same drug in healthy volunteers (West, Kendall & Mitchard, 1976;Davidson, Thadani, Taylor, Riess & Hess, 1976) and on single doses of metoprolol in hypertensive patients (Reybrouck, Amery, Fagard, Jousten, Lijnen & Meulepas, 1978).The changes in plasma oxprenolol concentrations appear to account for this variation in postexercise pulse rate and, since there is no accumulation of the drug, the concentrations found at 24 h after dosing would be expected to be associated with little or no effect in exercise heart rate. Nevertheless, although the study showed this rise in pulse rate over 24h to be significant, no significant rise in blood pressure was observed.…”
