Phase Composition and Properties of the Low-Temperature Structural Ceramics in the Clay-Calcium Containing Material System

Abstract: The ceramic materials structure formation with the given esthetics-consumer properties is the most important mission of the modern production and should be based on the knowledge of physical and chemical processes, which are flowing past in masses based on the systems differing in the content of alkaline, alkaline-earth oxides and oxides of iron in clay raw materials.

“…The obtained results analysis shows regular dependence of samples properties based on burnt clays on content of oxides providing basic properties (Table 2) [6,7,8]. So, the presence of the largest amount of CaO in Daraganovkaya and Zhetmolinskaya clays significantly increases the porosity of the shard from 25 to 36%.…”

“…The previous studies have used the method based on the decomposition of carbonate materials in the calcination process to produce porous ceramics [15]. The optimum content of carbonate material introduced by waste from liming water treatment at power stations (MCWT) shall not exceed 20... 25% [16,17].…”

“…Thus, the introduction of MCWT and fiberglass significantly increased porosity (2-4 times), reduced density (20-30%) and ambiguously affected strength depending on the type of clay (lowering 20-40% with VKS clay, increasing 1.5-2 times based on VKN clay) [18,19,20].…”
