Phase Diagrams for Three Component Mixtures in Pharmaceuticals and its Applications

Abstract: A phase is a physically discrete and chemically homogeneous portion of a system, separated by boundaries from other portions of the system. The phase rule given by J.W Gibbs in 1874 is applied to define a system composed of single component as well as multi-component. Various pharmaceutical formulations such as emulsion, micro emulsions and gels are mainly composed of lipid soluble component, water soluble component, surfactant and cosolvents. Phase diagram serves as an important tool for screening of such for… Show more

“…The zeta potential is an important index of the stability of nanoemulsion because it quantifies the electrostatic barriers, which could prevent the nanoparticle from aggregation and agglomeration; higher positive or negative zeta potential values causes higher repulsive forces where electrostatic repulsion between particles with the same charges which avoid aggregation of the particle and thus confirms easy dispersion [59][60][61][62][63][64]. The zeta potential values of all formulations were found with the help of zeta sizer nano ZEN2600 (Malvern, UK) between-15.76 mV and-22.97 mV.…”

“…Several Smix (1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4 and 2:1, 3:1, 4:1) ratios of surfactant and co-surfactant were utilized, and oil to particular Smix ratios (ranging from 0.5:9.5 to 9.5:0.5) were prepared. 10,11 Development of a liquid self-emulsifying drug delivery system (SEDD) To manufacture norfloxacin liquid self-emulsifying drug delivery (SEDD) formulations, a vortex mixer was used to combine norfloxacin (400 mg) with oleic acid oil, tween 20, and PEG200 (Smix) in a screw-capped glass vial. The mixture was then warmed in a water bath for half an hour at 50°C to induce homogeneity.…”
