Phase equilibria in the solid state and colour properties of the CuO–In2O3 system

Abstract: Phase equilibria up to solidus line in CuOIn 2 O 3 system have been investigated using XRD and DTA/ TG methods. According to the results, only one compound of the formula Cu 2 In 2 O 5 formed in the system studied. Its thermal stability was determined in the air and argon proving that the compound did not melt but underwent decomposition. The decomposition of Cu 2 In 2 O 5 in the air atmosphere began at 1080°C, while in argon at 835°C. Additional studies were undertaken to determine the hitherto unknown colour… Show more

“…Table 2 gives the compositions of the initial mixtures, conditions of heating, and the phase composition of the samples at equilibrium state. On the basis of the results obtained and the literature data [1,[4][5][6][7], the phase diagram of the subsolidus area of the ternary system V 2 O 5 -CuO-In 2 O 3 was made (Fig. 9).…”

“…Also, the properties of the binary systems making the system studied, i.e. CuO-V 2 O 5 , CuO-In 2 O 3 , and In 2 O 3 -V 2 O 5 , are known to a degree sufficient for our study [5][6][7][8]. The phase diagrams of these binary oxide systems and thermal stability of the phases forming of their components are known [5][6][7][8].…”

“…Reactions were carried out by the standard method of sintering samples described inter alia in the works [12][13][14]. The mixtures, containing reagents weighed in appropriate proportions, were homogenized by grinding in a mechanical agate mortar and then they were heated in the atmosphere of air for several stages, with intermediate grinding.…”

“…Despite potential problems, the aim of this study was to obtain this new phase, denoted as X phase, and to investigate its properties with the help of XRD, DTA/TG, SEM/EDX, and IR methods. Results of investigations by XRD, DTA/TG, SEM/EDX, and IR methods allow a determination of composition of samples and establishing the range of their thermal stability [17][18][19][20].…”
