Abstract:Laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) is an additive manufacturing method which involves local laser melting of powder particles, a partial remelting of previously deposited layers, and subsequent re-solidification under high thermal gradients and cooling rates. The transition between melting and re-solidification becomes visible as melt pool boundaries in optical micrographs and plays a crucial role: Apart from creating a strong segregation zone, the transition determines whether the microstructure is inherited and… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
