Phase‐only synthesis of planar arrays using autocorrelation matching method

Abstract: Autocorrelation matching method is proposed for phase‐only synthesis of power pattern of planar antenna arrays. This method is based on equating the autocorrelation coefficients of a planar array having a specified amplitude of excitations to those of a conventionally designed planar array. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by synthesis of pencil‐beam and flat‐top patterns.

“…2,3 Reflectarrays are another example of antennas exploiting mainly a phase-only tapering. 4 The phase only design problem is a tough problem even for linear arrays, which can be approached via analytical techniques 5,6 but which is more often approached with optimization techniques, from the more classical Gradient 7 and Quasi Newton 8 to Integer Programming, 9 Convex Relaxation 10 and Taguchi. 11 Finally, evolutionary algorithms are usually among the preferred, like, among others, Particle Swarm 12,13 Bat algorithm, 14 Quantized Water Cycle Algorithm 15 and Cross Entropy.…”
